Under the direct supervision of the CCC’s Program Manager & Coordinator, the Assistant(s) is responsible for assisting with all facets of the CCC’s summer programs activities and handling our facilities. This is a seasonal, part-time position with training, and work hours are June – August 2022. Please apply if you can work on Chappy any days in this range. Weekends are required.
KEY ROLES:
- Operate a safe and impactful community center environment for daily visitors
- Cultivate strong relationships with visitors & community members
- Maintain safe environments for program/activity participants
- Greet parents and guardians daily and communicate program updates.
- Assist the Program Manager with planning, scheduling, and coordinating programs and activities
- Daily maintenance and upkeep of facilities including some physical labor such as chairs/tables set up & breakdown, tidy kitchen, storing groceries, game storage in the loft area (stairs), event set up (games, decorations, etc.)
- Assist in recruiting & assigning duties to volunteers supporting larger events such as the CCC annual fair, fundraisers, art show, tennis tournament, etc. (see activities calendar on website)
- Assume other duties as assigned by the program manager such as daily signage, social media, bulletin board notifications, production of weekly activity newsletter
- Open and/or Close building some days of the week
- Sell merchandise such as tee shirts, mugs, books, and other small items
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with children
- Must be motivated, energetic, punctual, and responsible
- Act as an excellent role model for children with excitement & a positive attitude
- Ability to resolve conflict and potential crises as they arise
- Strong verbal communications skills
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and assist in behavior change for children who are experiencing behavioral issues is necessary
- Ability to ask for help when needed; training, guidance, and mentorship is provided throughout the season
Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $15 /hour
Experience:
- Any experience working with children (siblings, babysitting, etc.)
- All relevant: involvement and/or enjoyment in the arts, team sports, individual sports, working with/or enjoying nature
- Event or party planning a plus
- A desire to be a part of a strong community
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Shifts:
- We are seeking two, perhaps three individuals who will share the following hours based on a weekly schedule prepared by the program manager. These hours may be split amongst all assistants depending on your “on island” summer schedule June – August 2022.
- Available hours below to split between more than one assistant.
- Mon – Fri hours to be determined (building greeter, sell merchandise, odds & ends type duties, close & lock building
- Sat/Sun 10 am to 3 pm (open and close building)
Work Location:
- Chappaquiddick Community Center @ 180 Chappaquiddick Road
- Must be able to work daily on the island of Chappaquiddick, Edgartown, MA (Martha’s Vineyard)
Hours per week:
- 5 to 20 depending on your availability and number of assistants hours are split between
