My Summer with Ospreys: A Therapist Journey Towards Hope,

community, and healing our planet.  By Pamela Lowell

(Release date Spring 2024)

Pamela developed a slide show about the process of checking Osprey nests,

banding chicks and the translocation process (a joint project with the University

of Illinois) which I think visitors/residents of the island will find very interesting.

About Pamela Lowell

As a trauma therapist, avid birder, and “wannabe” artist, Pamela Lowell jumped at the chance to accompany Mass Audubon in their weekly Osprey nest monitoring project on the Westport River. She initially thought she’d get some photos of cute Osprey chicks to use in her paintings—but she got way more out of the adventure than she expected. Or imagined!

Lowell is an astute observer of both human behavior and the natural world. In journal format, she weaves together observations and personal experiences into a humorous and exciting narrative as a passenger on the Lucky Me along with the scientists of Mass Audubon, and a cast of dedicated volunteers. With original watercolor illustrations throughout, her journey towards hope, community, and healing our planet is one that can inspire us all to be better stewards of our ever-changing world.
