Update On The Medi Van

The Chappy Community Center

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS SERVICE TO OUR CHAPPY RESIDENTS

CHAPPAQUIDDICK Mini-MEDIVAN PROCEDURES

Thanks to a cooperative effort by The Edgartown Council on Aging, Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA), and the Chappaquiddick Ferry, a minivan will now be available on Tuesdays to pick up eligible individuals at their homes on Chappy. The Chappy Minivan will deliver them to the Steamship Authority to catch the VTA Medivan to Boston hospitals or the Sandwich OCB office and pick them up in the afternoon to return to Chappy.

Individuals requesting the Chappy Minivan must meet the age and/or disability requirements set out in the VTA Medivan Procedures.

How do I request a Chappy pickup by the Chappy Minivan?
Complete the VTA Medivan Service Form (AVAILABLE HERE) and return it to VTA. Call the VTA (508-693-9440 ext 1) and make your reservation for the VTA off-island Medivan according to VTA guidelines (Boston medical or OCB trips)Call the Edgartown Council on Aging (508-627-4368) to request a home pickup by the Chappy Minivan. This must be done by 1:00 pm the DAY before your trip, and you are urged to make your reservations well in advance. The Chappy Minivan driver will contact you the day before your trip to confirm your trip. You will not be picked up if we cannot confirm your trip. When the Medivan returns from Boston, the Chappy Minivan will be waiting to take you home. If, for any reason, you are not returning as planned, please be sure to let your driver know and notify the Council on Aging.

What does it cost?
You will pay VTA for the Boston or OCB Medivan service.
$40 round-trip for Boston medical appointments, including ferry ticket$20 round-trip for OCB medical appointments, including ferry ticket.
The Chappy Minivan service is free, and there is no cost for the 6:00 am Chappy Ferry. A Chappy Ferry passenger ticket IS REQUIRED for the RETURN TRIP ONLY.

Important Items:
On the day of your trip, you must be ready for the Chappy Minivan to pick you up at 5:15 am. If necessary, this will allow the driver multiple pickups in time to catch the Chappy Ferry at 6:00. The Minivan WILL NOT WAIT if you are not ready. The Chappy Minivan must meet the VTA Medivan at Steamship Authority no later than 6:30 am.

VTA requires cancellations to be made by the Friday before your scheduled Tuesday trip. Make sure to notify the Council on Aging of your cancellation as well.

Please be aware that the Chappy Minivan is equipped to carry one wheelchair, as is the VTA Medivan. Please be sure to consider whether you need assistance for this trip, as it is a long day. If you have specific limitations or need a helper to come with you, please discuss this with the Council on Aging.
